The System Engineering and Assessment (SEA) from England signed a contract with the Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) of South Korea to provide Torpedo Launcher System (TLS) for the two (2) new frigate being built for the Philippine Navy.
The system will be similar with to those in service of the United Kingdom Royal Navy and also to other Southeast Asian Countries Navies being supplied like Malaysia and Thailand. It is a revolutionary system that enables operator of having the flexibility in choosing the best weapon system independently. Also, it is reconfigurable to fire all NATO standard light weight torpedo and having a option of switching during the life of the navy ship.
The System Engineering Torpedo Launcher System has port and starboard triple torpedo tubes with a rotating base. The materials used to construct are composite material for longer equipment life and low infrared signature. The remarkable design of its modern electronics benefited the operator for the ease in the integration to the ship's combat management system and it can also be configured in stand-alone or independent mode.
System Engineering and Assessment manufacturing facility is located at Barnstaple in the United Kingdom. The factory maintain a steady flow of different kind of products currently being delivered to South East Asian Market in which the Torpedo launcher system will be manufactured. The scheduled date of delivery for the first system of torpedo launcher is for late 2018.
Additional requirement aside from the equipment supply, System Engineering and Assesment shall provide key installation and life cycle support services to ensure successful acceptance.
The System Engineering and Assesment Director Steve Hill commented that the latest successful export contract demonstrates that navies around the world has high regard for the SEA TLS technology. SEA also able to establish as a leading contemporary supplier to the South East Asian Market and the proven reliability of the TLS offers more opportunities in other regions of the world.
Torpedo Launcher System Key Feature and Specifications
System Engineering and Assesment has more than 30 years of experience in design, supply and supporting integrated Torpedo Launcher Systems. Also, is being the primary supplier of a wide range of products to the United Kingdom Royal Navy. Thus, providing rapid launcher to a range of weapon types which is available in multiple launcher configurations to suit different platforms.
The SEA Lightweight Torpedo Launcher is can deploy different NATO standard lightweight torpedoes which includes in the easy configuration to launch the US mark 44, Mark 46 and Mark 54 torpedoes plus the United Kingdom Sting Ray and Italian A244S.
The electronic system suites to varying complex configuration and operational requirement of different navies. The SEA Torpedo Launcher System is a flexible design to meet requirements of ships varying in size from coastal patrol vessel to aircraft carriers.
The key features of the Torpedo Launcher are the provision of a close range, rapid reaction weapon launching capability . It is also designed to store, handle, load, preset and the discharge torpedoes from the deck of the warships. The design were based on the proven UK MoD Magazine Torpedo Launcher System. The tubes are made up of glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) composite for lightweight, low maintenance and proven to have a longer life. The hatches or the access ports can be customized to any weapon type to be used, able to have data connection to the launcher and it can be arrange even before the launching moment. The Fire Control Solution aided by its modern electronic suites which provides calculations, predicting target position. The TLS can be integrated to the ships combat management system or it can operate on its own or stand-alone. Easy configuration into triple or dual launcher mounted to meet the customer requirements.
