Philippine Navy Anti-Submarine Anti-Ship Helicopter The AugustaWestLand AW-159 WildCAT Helicopter





NAVAL FORCE MULTIPLIER



The AugustWesland / Leonardo Helicopter building on over 50 years of heritage and company experience of small ship aviation, the AW-159 wildcat is the latest generation of multi-mission and maritime helicopter. The AW-159 helicopter is designed to operates from the smallest ship decks in the harshest environment of poor weather and high sea state. It has a high readiness for a long periods which provides immediate mission execution with an excellent rates of availability. It is able the launch and recover with minimal disruption to other ship operations.

The AW-159 helicopter has a fully integrated state-of-the-art avionics, mission and weapon systems and a comprehensive, technologically advance and robust air vehicle. These systems collect and process all the considerable amount of information which then present to the crew to provide the unrivaled situational awareness to achieve the competitive advantage in the modern battle zone. It facilitates rapid tactical assessment in any theater of operations with its complete suite of self-protection measures.


Air frame



The air frame of the AW-159 helicopter is a crash worthy air frame structures which protects its pilot and passenger. It has an air frame 12,000 flight hours of  light alloy and composite materials with an excellent corrosion protection. It has a large cockpit doors and cabin doors from the ease of ingress and egress of both the pilot and passengers.


Engine and Fuel Systems



The Aw-159 helicopter has two 1,361 hp turbo shaft engines with Fully Automated Digitally Enhanced Control (FADEC). The engines has built-in Infra-red Suppression system to prevent from being track by any heat-seeking sensors and missiles. The fuel system is fully redundant with 5 independent fuel tank system which allows to continuous operation even if it is hit by enemy fire. Also, it has a single point pressure refuel and defueling system with has a gravity refuel capability.


Undercarriage and Deck Lock



The fixed tricycle configuration enables the pilot to have a 3.5 meter per minute vertical descent capability. The castoring nose gives the ease of control during taxiing and when turning into space-limited flight deck. The deck lock Harpoon system permits a 360-degrees rotation.


Avionics



The integrated glass cockpit with four 10 inches x 8 inches Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display screen. It has an integrated Audio warning from flight warning, engine trouble up to mission and threat warning. The fully redundant flight instrument features enable the helicopter mission ready. The 4-axis Digital Automatic Flight Control System (DAFCS) provides "hands off" flight and "wing level" safety features. It has a Health and Usage Monitoring System and Avionics Management System with dual redundant control display.The Tactical Processor has a mission recorder and digital map features.


Navigation



The helicopter has a complex navigation system which makes it capable it multi-mission ready. These includes the integrated Global Positioning System, Dual Altitude and heading reference systems, Air Data System, radar altimeter, Civil navigation global positioning system with very high frequency omni-directional range, instrument landing system VOR/ILS, direction finding system and tactical air navigation.


Mission System


The Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar is a 360 degrees multi-mode surveillance radar to find, track and identify and it has Electro-Optical Device with color TV thermal Image and Laser finder.


Communication System



The dual very high and ultra high frequency radios including VHF tactical capability enables real time combat scenario. Also it has integrated secure communications between other helicopter and the command center.


Armaments



The AW-159 wildcat is a multi-mission ready which carries an array of armaments for various missions such as Maritime Interdiction, Ant-Surface Warfare and Anti-Submarine. The Integrated radar and electronic and optical device gives the helicopter to locate,verify and engage potential threats at stand-off ranges which employs the integrated stores management system, torpedoes, guided air to surface missile solutions for anti-ship and fast asymmetric target and cabin door mounted machine guns of 7.62 millimeter or 12.7 millimeter caliber.
