The SAFRAN ELECTRONICS and DEFENSE announce its first sales has signed a contract for the latest generation of Electro-Optical Targeting System to an Asian Navy. The PASEO NS (Naval System) will be outfitted to the new frigate which will be delivered at the end of 2018. The PASEO NS sights offers day and night target designation and surveillance capabilities.
Although Safran Electronics & Defense does not name which Asian Navy Frigates, it is safe to assume that the contract is with Hyundai Heavy Industries, and the intended frigate is for the Philippine Navy.
The PASEO NS (Naval System) is the latest part of Safran Electronics and Defense in the PASEO Marine line of naval products. It is used for surveillance, tracking and fire control of naval guns of all caliber especially for 40 mm, 57 mm, 76 mm and 100 mm. With its features being a gyro-stabilized, it has video camera, MWIR (Medium Wave Infrared) channel and laser range finder. The Paseo NS can detect many different threats such as conventional, asymmetrical, from near the ship and out to the horizon. All threats will be automatically track and use appropriate weapons to engage and eliminate the target or threat. In the family of Paseo, the company' s list of naval products for surface ships also includes the Vidy Observer and Engage, EOMS NG and PASEO XLR.
As part of the large range of sighting systems in Safran Electronics and Defense, the PASEO NS has a feedback mechanism from the versions already in used by land forces. It was design to adapt in meeting specific conditions, missions and challenges that the surface ships facing. The company has a production rate of 40 pieces per month at its plant in Dijon, France and already delivered 2,500 orders for the PASEO systems

The PASEO NS: Multi-Mission Naval Electro-Optical Fire Control System
The Paseo NS electro-optical fire control system provides a high precision detection and targeting against air or sea threats and swarm attack threats. I can protect the naval assets while at anchor and self-defense during operations. It can operate both days and night missions and ensures short to long range identification and tracking of threats. It can operate in a very rough sea conditions and poor visibility. The Paseo NS can be integrated to the Ships Combat Management System or it can operated in a stand alone mode. Also it can be operated manually or it can be configured to automatic surveillance and automatic target tracking. It automatically aid in identifying threats and transmission or reception of 3 Dimensional designated target information. Paseo NS can simultaneously control and operate several guns aboard the ships with different calibers. And it is easy to operate and maintain.
The PASEO NS comprises:
1. A high-performance platform which is gyro-stabilized that provides an accurate line of sight to the target.
2. A high accuracy gun firing because of the ballistic computer that support the system.
3. With the Man-Machine Interrace or the MMI that is located to the multiple function console of the combat management system or to the stand alone local dedicated console which is located to the bridge.
4. It is fully passive equipment except for the LRF; it operates without electromagnetic emission or radar silence.
Technical Specifications:
It is a third generation of MWIR camera with zoom functionality and a highly sensitive CCD color camera. It has an eye-safe laser target range finder. The sensor is gyro-stabilized lightweight which results in high-performance. The up-to-date multi mode video tracker: centroid, correlation, combines, edges and multiple track targets. For identification, recognition and detection of different target, the Paseo NS has typical ranges for the different targets. For human targets, it can be detected as far as 14 kilometers, recognized at 6.5 kilometers and identify at 3 kilometers. For Vehicle targets, it can detect as far as 18 kilometers, recognized at 9.5 kilometers and identify at 5.5 kilometers. And for Naval Ship target, it can detect as far as 27 kilometers, recognized at 16 kilometers and identify at 9 kilometers.
