AK-101 Avtomat Kalashnikov is the new Assault Rifle of the Philippines from Russia



A Brief NEWS of the "Russia is Delivering Kalashnikov Assault Rifle to Philippines"



MOSCOW - Russia starts delivering the Kalashnikov Assault Rifle to the Philippines a defense industry source reveals. The Philippine's ambassador to Russia on Monday, October 16, tells that Russia is handing over to the Philippines a 5,000 AK-101 Assault Rifle, 1 million cartridges and 20 military trucks free of charge and it will arrive on October 22, 2017.


Last May 2017, during the short visit of President Duterte to Russia to meet President Vladimir Putin, he expressed Manila's interest in advanced Russian weapons, including planes, helicopters and precision guided missiles to combat the terrorism. According to the Philippines Ambassador, arms contract could be sign a multiple arms purchased contracts with Russia before the end of the year.

The Kalashnikov AK-101 Assault Rifle


The AK-101 design and features is based on the original AK-47 system designed by the fabled Soviet/Russian gunsmith Mikhail Kalashnikov. The development of AK-101 begins sometime in 1994 with a though of foreign customers in mind. Therefore, it is chambered to fire the 5.56 mm x 45 mm NATO cartridge.


To date, there are 25,000 AK-101 and others variants produced and develop such as the shorter carbine variant for of the AK-102. While the AK-103 family line has chambered with 7.62 mm x 39 mm cartridge, features of the AK-101 is also implemented.


The development of AK-101 is the modernized form of the world renowned KALASHNIKOV AK-47 assault rifle especially for those customers who are using the universal NATO 5.56 mm standard cartridge. The AK-101 series is made up of lightweight composite materials with the modern manufacturing technology in the design and production. This makes the assault rifle system lighter in weight than its previous predecessor and makes it easier to handle and operates with the common ammunition caliber.


General layout and external appearance of the AK-101 is based on the AK-47. The receiver features the slab-sided having a clean lines which tapers the for-end and fordable shoulder stock (lockable) is featured at the rear of the receiver. The pistol grip is somewhat straight yet angled at the rear of the grip for a firm hold while the trigger has a curved trigger unit with a rectangular trigger ring. In front of the trigger group is the magazine release and the curve, smooth-sided magazine is fed ahead of the magazine release lever. An ergonomic piece protects the for-end of the rifle which the gas cylinder set above the barrel, with a short distance from the receiver. Below the gas cylinder, the barrel runs under sporting a single baffle muzzle brake or a flash suppressor (similar to AK-74) with a noticeable forward sight post.  And a standard cleaning rod fitted along underside of the barrel. The weapons weight is just 7.5 pounds with no magazine installed. The overall length is just over 37 inches long with the stock fully extended and 27.5 inches with the stock folded over the receiver. The barrel has a length of 415 millimeter (16.3 inches). Behind the adjustable iron sights, he rifle can accept an optics mount and be able to fit specialized optics and accessories as needed in combat mission.


The AK-101 can be semi-automatic and full automatic modes which feature a gas actuated, rotating bolt firing action. The Assault rifle feeds from a standard 30-round detachable box magazine and is rated at 650 rounds per minute with a muzzle velocity of 2,986 feet per second with an effective range of 500 meters.
